A day at the Beach

About This Experience

The day began high above the coast, where a rugged headland opened onto one of the most beautiful views of the entire bay. From the walking trail we could see the sea stretching far into the distance, intensely blue and almost unreal in the sunlight. A historic watchtower stood above the coastline, a reminder of the time when these exposed hills were used to watch over the sea. We followed the scenic paths around the headland, stopping again and again because every bend revealed another impressive view over cliffs, beaches, and the surrounding mountains. Later we made our way down toward the long white-sand beach below. From above, the landscape had already looked spectacular, but standing on the shore made it even more impressive. The water was crystal clear and turquoise near the beach, turning to a deep blue farther out, with a few boats floating quietly in the bay. Behind the beach lay a peaceful lagoon, separated from the open sea by only a narrow strip of sand. The contrast was beautiful: on one side the wide Mediterranean sea, on the other the calm lagoon, and behind both the rugged mountains rising above the coast. We spent the rest of the day walking along the sand, enjoying the clear water and the peaceful scenery. It was one of those places where you constantly wanted to stop and look back, because the colors and the landscape seemed to change with every few steps. By the end of the full-day tour, we had experienced cliffs, panoramic viewpoints, historic remains, white sand, turquoise water, mountains, and lagoon all in one place. It was a perfect example of how dramatic and beautiful a Mediterranean coastline can be.
